Gilding the Fractures is an original oil and mixed-media painting on cradled wood panel that explores the quiet unraveling that accompanies dementia and Alzheimer's disease. The fractured surface represents the small cracks that begin to appear—moments of confusion, forgotten names, and the gradual shifting of life as it was once known.

Thick, sculptural layers of paint move across the surface like an attempt to mend, protect, and hold together what is slowly changing. Yet beneath and within the fractures, warmth and luminosity remain.

Inspired by the Japanese philosophy of finding beauty in brokenness, this piece is a reminder that even as life falls apart in unexpected ways, love, dignity, and beauty continue to endure.
